Seven Union ministers, including leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal, met Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday evening and demanded strict action against the opposition members, alleging that they “indulged in unprecedented, extreme and violent” acts in the Upper House on August 11.

Sources said Union ministers Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupender Yadav, Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Muraleedharan met Naidu. Deputy Chairman Harivansh was also present during the meeting.

The ministers submitted a memorandum requesting Naidu to act against the opposition members. During the meeting, the delegation alleged that marshals were prevented from discharging their duties and House papers and minutes book were ‘thrown’ towards the Chair. They also alleged that the Chair was ‘abused’ and the opposition MPs ‘obstructed’ the House from performing its duties.

The Rajya Sabha Chairman assured the ministers that he will examine the matter and take a call on the appropriate course of action. Naidu also held a meeting with Sashmit Patra, who was in the Chair when these incidents took place in the House.
